Pep Ramis

Manacor 1962. He was born in Mallorca into a family where music and painting are very present. Throughout his training he studied cello, puppetry and voice. Since childhood, drawing has been part of his everyday imagination. His interest in the scene was born in 1985, when he discovered a place of confluence of all his previous experiences, with the body as the backbone. In 1989, together with María Muñoz, he formed the Mal Pelo creation group, in which he developed his role as a builder of sets and installation spaces. He is currently stage director, dancer-actor and co-director of the creation center L'animal a l'esquena in Celrà, Girona.

Pep Ramis is an eclectic artist and has worked in different languages ​​and disciplines, including music, drawing, sculpture, installations, set design and especially stage direction and performance. Collaboration with other creators for many years (John Berger, Erri de Luca, Steve Paxton or Lisa Nelson, among many others) has been an important part of his learning and his vision of artistic processes is conditioned by these experiences. hybridization and mutual contamination.

With the creative group Mal pelo, they have toured around the world, and their installation work has been seen in different exhibitions in Barcelona, ​​Girona, Cádiz, Marseille. They have also published three books on the group’s stage work. Mal Pelo has received various awards, including the National Dance Award from the Ministry of Culture, the National Dance Award of Catalonia, the Best Performance Award given by the Apdc, the City of Barcelona Award.
