Xevi Bayona

Since he was a child, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Olot. He also studies architecture in Barcelona and Portugal, at the FAUP, Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. Architect from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) with the PFC Library-Toy Library in Espinho, Portugal. Postgraduate Degree in Landscaping at the (ETSAB) and Master in Theory and Practice of the Architectural Project at the (ETSAB) with the dissertation “La Girona dels Carrers-Escala”. Since 2008 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Girona. Since 2018 he is Professor at Elisava’s international master’s degree in ephemeral architecture. Winner of several awards, including three FAD awards, several finalist and selected projects, winner of awards and mentions of architecture of the Counties of Girona and winner of the contest Changing Tracks, a European project to make 3 installations in Catalonia , England and Ireland. Since 2017 he has been collaborating and carrying out projects together with Àlex Posada, MID Studio. He has carried out civil works such as the Rehabilitation of the State Bridge of Tortosa over the river Ebro, the rehabilitation of the sports area of ​​Sant Jaume de Llierca or the Olot Fair, as well as works of housing architecture. He has given lectures, workshops and made ephemeral interventions in various European cities.

He has been the Artistic Director of the Fire and Light Festival, Lluèrnia d’Olot, since its inception.

Bayona Studio is a workshop and studio in the center of the city of Olot, working with experimentation and essay as a method, criticism as learning, emotions as a tool, interpretation and respect for the environment social, physical and cultural, enthusiasm and intense research as fuel. All at the crossroads of architecture, town planning, art, landscape, ephemeral installations and light sculptures, a mixture of disciplines that feed back and complement each other.

BUIT DOMÈSTIC

La cabanya sempre ha estat vinculada al fet de guardar, de servir com a recipient per contenir aliment, de protegir-lo de la pluja, dels animals, ha estat un element per a guardar la vida.

En un estadi primitiu, l’arquitectura la podem relacionar amb el niu i amb la cova. Dues realitats oposades que donen resposta a la primera necessitat del fet de viure: protegir-se. El niu com a lloc funcional, artificial, acollidor, com a renuncia a la vida nòmada. La cova com a lloc aliè als seus habitants, un buit apte per a la vida i per a les persones que usen les seves concavitats.

El projecte reomple el volum de la cabanya, redibuixa les dues aigües de la seva forma original. La construcció esdevé per adició, per entreteixir branques del mateix lloc. Just dins d’aquest volum, al mig d’aquest ple, es deixa l’espai buit de la forma arquetípica de la casa, es deixa un buit potser per habitar. Esdevé una cova dins un niu, un refugi o un espai per guardar vida,  esdevé un buit domèstic.
